July News Update from Ekonk Community Grange

By Sue Gray

  JULY 1, 2014 --

We are so pleased to be increasing our membership at each of our last meetings-wow!  We voted to participate in the Moosup V-J Day Parade at the encouragement of Past Master, Robert A. Chamberland.  VOLUNTEERS, yes I said, volunteers to put together a float (theme “Families”) included Jamie Izzarelli (her first Grange meeting), Paulette Craig and Mike Molodich!  It was suggested that we appoint a feasibility study regarding this, but these 3 folks stepped right up to the plate!

We voted a $100.00 donation to the Brooklyn AG Days Rodeo event and our Grange will have a signboard for that event.  We voted a $100.00 donation to the Killingly High School Vo-AG (FFA) Scholarship Fund.  Our biennial FFA Appreciation Supper was fantastic!  Our Grange also voted to supply a $350.00 Campership to Camp Berger for one of our Junior Grangers.

We will assist Sterling Family Day with their fundraising Chicken Barbecue at our hall on Sat., July 26th.  In August we hope to have a Peach Shortcake Supper.

At our June meeting, election of officers was held and Katie Molodich, who just ended her year as State FFA Vice President, was elected President again.  Link Cooper, who has done an exemplary job as our leader this past year, was elected Vice President.  We held our annual baking contest that evening and Rebecca Gervais and her son, Jared captured 1st prizes in Subordinate and Junior, respectively from among the many entries.

Our youth Drill Team is coming along extremely well and will perform at our Grange on July 7th.  Link Cooper installed the air conditioner in the Grange kitchen, which is sure to be an asset with summer heat.  July 15th, we voted to host a meal for the Brooklyn Large Animal clinic again.    Things are booming on the hill!
