Simsbury Grange News for June

By Susan Masino

  June 18, 2017 --

The Simsbury Grange had another successful electronics recycling event on Saturday May 13. Once again the Boy Scouts from Troop 76 were a big help. We are now doing this event twice a year and everyone who comes is so grateful to be able to recycle their electronics responsibly. Our next electronics recycling event is Saturday, October 28 from 9-12. Mark your calendars and save the date to recycle responsibly!

At our regular May meeting we devoted some time to pay tribute to and remember Betty Jane Gardiner. We know many Grangers at the State level knew her and her husband for many years. It felt really nice to share some thoughts and stories and sweets in her honor.

Also in May we submitted a Neighborhood Assistance Grant that would enable us award large tax benefits to those who want to donate to energy conservation projects, other upgrades, and job training opportunities affiliated with the Grange. There will a public hearing in Town on June 12, and pending a positive vote our application will be forwarded to the State for consideration. We will keep you posted and are happy to share our application and experience with any other Grange that might to apply next time.

Looking ahead - we are already gearing up for our awesome fair on Saturday September 16 from 10-3. Where else can you sit in a Lemonade Garden (like a Beer Garden, but no beer) and sip a large cool cup of lemonade and listen to live music with fellow Grangers for a total cost of 50 cents? Back again this year: we will open the Fair at 10 am with live bagpipes from the Talcott Mountain Highlanders! Hearing the sound of bagpipes rolling across the farm fields and throughout our little Grange Fair is not to be missed. We also have Irish step dancing and so much more. Hope to see you there!
