Grange Deaf Awareness Grant Program Deadline Near

For many years the National Grange conducted an active Deaf Awareness Program which led to many valuable projects that enabled our members to learn more about deaf people and their challenges. In many cases, great relationships were also built with the deaf community.

Homemade gifts focus of new Community Service / CWA Venture

Love can be expressed in many ways, but for some, it is through a unique and generous way of showing their affection for nursing home residents, hospital patients, and newborn babies. Ekonk Community Grange member Barbara Cameron was a spirited woman whose beautiful handiwork produced more than 5,000 lap robes and baby hats, all of which she donated.

How are your entries coming?

I hope everybody has finished, or come close to finishing their entries. Remember each entry has to have a slip on the item telling us who it belongs to, which Grange it represents, and whether it is a Junior or an adult entry. The different contests you can enter is Needlework, Dress-a-Doll, Crafts, Scrapbooking, and Baking.

Recipes and Contests

I'm sure that many of you have heard about the cookbooks that are going to be sold in the Grange Building at the Big E. This year's book will be "Soups, Salads, and Appetizers" but more recipes are needed so that the book can be published for sale at this year's fair.

The Women's Activities Committee is seeking recipes to be submitted for publication in the new Grange cookbook to be sold at the New England Grange Building during the Big E this September/October 2010.

Off and Running

Covenant To Care Project

Our project for the year is to work with Covenant to Care, a statewide organization supported by many churches and civic groups as well as individuals. This year we will be having a baby shower of gifts for infants and toddlers.

New England Grange Building Country Store

We are very pleased with the response to the requests for handmade items to be sold in the New England Grange Building at the Big E, held in September in West Springfield, MA. Now we ask you to “do it again” for the 2010 Expo.

Junior Program / Projects

Nifty Needles is a special project or class we offer to Junior Granges. This is a part of the needlework contest. The contestants may make an item using ANY KIND OF NEEDLE, knitting, crochet hook, sewing needle, etc.

Information on the 2010 NE Leaders' Conference

The 2010 Northeast Leaders' Conference will be held at the Ramada Hotel and Conference Center at 1380 Putney Road in Brattleboro, Vermont on January 8, 9 and 10, 2010. Hotel reservations must be made with the hotel at (802) 254-8701 no later than JANUARY 1, 2010; be sure to mention Vermont State Grange when reserving.

September 2009 President's Message

I hope everyone enjoyed the summer as much as Sister Marge and I did. We had a great time in Florida. It’s wonderful to meet once a year with my family. Upon our return we had a quick breather before we were off to the Northeast Lecturer’s Conference. This is a good time to meet friends from the other six states in our region.

New England Grange needs

The New England Grange Building has openings for volunteers during the 2009 Big E. As many of you know, we operate a country store and craft sale during the Fair as well as hosting and welcoming many visitors and Grangers from throughout New England and beyond during the 17 day run of the Big E.

As you know, the CWA has chosen Kitty-cats as our theme this year and our slogan is “You are the Cat’s Meow!” The cat has occupied different roles in our society- from gods in ancient Egypt to demons in Medieval Europe, from everyday mousers to pampered pets!

Sister Marge and I just returned from the Northeast Region Lecturers Conference and what a great time we had. You may have noticed that the name of the conference has changed. Most of you remember it as the New England Lecturers Conference. Well we have a new member to our region and it is the New York State Grange.

There are just a few Subordinate Granges left to evaluate and the reports are pretty good. From what I have read the Granges have taken in more than sixty new members this past year. This is very encouraging and I hope it will continue into the fall.

Memory Book Instructions

Many children in Foster Care never have an opportunity to save mementos of their lives. We hope that by providing these Memory Books, they will have a place to put pictures, special awards and other “important things” for safe keeping.

Grange Celebration

On Aug. 25, Grange members from around the state of Connecticut will be gathering at the Goodwill Grange ;Hall, 43 Naubuc Ave., Glastonbury, for judging of their CWA Needlework, Crafts, and bake contests.
