Town celebrates Memorial Day

By Kevin Hotary, Staff Writer, Reminder News (5/29/09)

  MAY 25, 2009 --

Colchester residents came out to honor those who gave their lives in service to the country last Sunday, lining the Streets for the 2009 Memorial Day Parade.

With the theme "Home of the Free - Because of the Brave," the parade started with a flyover by a pair of military helicopters. In addition to a number of floats, the parade featured marching bands from Bacon Academy and William J. Johnston Middle School, as well as the Colchester Continentals Fife and Drum Corp.

Colchester little-leaguers marched in the parade, carrying flags and waving to the crowd, as did local Boy Scout and Girl Scout troops, with Cub Scout Pack 109 taking the prize for Most Patriotic Float.

Colchester Grange No.78 won the award for the Most Original Theme float.
