Around The Grange
April Musings from Winchester Grange

By Todd Gelineau, Winchester Grange President

  APRIL 3, 2011 --

The month of March began with a Memorial Service Reception for Marion Beecher on the 6th.  We thank all of the members who pitched in to help make the reception possible.  There was enough food to feed an army.  Winchester members always rise to the call when needed. Thank you so much.

Just hours after the reception, the Grange Master received a call from the Winchester Center Fire Chief and Grange member Peter Marchand reporting a flood in the lower hall.  So at 2:30 in the morning the Master and Secretary rushed to the hall to get all of the furniture upstairs to avoid damaging both the furniture and the carpeting.  Fortunately Cerruto’s Carpet Cleaning was able to come to our rescue.  After removing two truck loads of water and cleaning and disinfecting the carpeting the hall was in even better shape than it was before the flood.  Our thanks go to the anonymous member who contributed the $700 to cover the cleaning costs.  The Waterbury Republican-American even included this event in a story about flooding around Litchfield County!  Not the publicity we would prefer, but it’s still publicity about an active Grange.

A photographer from the Republican attended our March 22 meeting to take pictures of the Charter Draping for Marion Beecher.  We did not permit him to photograph the actual ceremony, but did pose a couple of shots for him which did appear in the Litchfield County section of the next day’s paper.

April will be degree month at Winchester Grange.  All Granges who have candidates in need of degrees are encouraged to contact Master Todd Gelineau (860) 626-0326. We would love to have you with us for the Degrees.
