Ekonk Community Grange June News Update

By Sue Gray

  JUNE 3, 2012 --

Our biennial FFA Appreciation supper was a great success with 62 in attendance and $95.00 raised for the Killingly High School FFA Scholarship Fund.  We welcomed three new members since my last column:  youth members Clifford Gervais and Richard Tavalsky and Joyce Zavistoski!  Richard is new to the Youth Drill team too!  Our Comm. Dev. Dir., Rebecca Gervais, presented prizes to delighted 3rd Graders at Sterling Com. School in our annual Earth Day poster contest!

When you read this column, we will have marched in the annual Sterling Memorial Day Parade.  Link Cooper has been a real asset to our Grange through his carpentry expertise:  he built lifts for our coffee pot and cold drink cooler; re-designed our “No Parking” sign; built a rugged Roast Beef Supper sign and much more... volunteering on suppers... wow!

Winners in our State Baking contest were Junior, Lillian Sharpe and Subordinate, Sue Gray.  We donated $20 each to Katie Molodich & Brandi Hawkins (walking Relay for Life in Woodstock).  We have been asked to take over the Food Booth (beginning June 2013) at the Plainfield Relay for Life; this would be a MAJOR Community Service undertaking and the Committee of David Griffiths, Link Cooper and Jody Cameron will research the feasibility for a vote at the June meeting!

We will submit an entry in the “Distinguished Grange” program.  We set July 22nd (1:00 PM) for our annual Awards Luncheon where we will present three 75 year, four 50 year, three  55 year, and one  65 year membership awards.

Special Hello to Program Director, Robin Cousens: you are in our prayers!

Election is in June!  Plan a visit to scenic Ekonk Hill in your summer schedule!
