Around The Grange
Colchester Celebrates 125 Years

By Joan Toomey

  SEPTEMBER 7, 2013 --

Amid a beautiful day, Colchester Grange #78 (organized on Feb. 14, 1888) celebrated their 125th Anniversary with a chicken barbecue on August 13, and other activities throughout the year with many State Grange dignitaries and guests in attendance at the beautiful Leonard Farm with Polly Leonard as hostess for the event.  She had many helpful hands from Colchester Grange to assist her set up tents, tables and chairs as well as assist with the many delightful side dishes and desserts.

Phyllis McCall was presented with her 60 year seal and State Master Jody Cameron presented the Grange with a 125th Anniversary plaque from National Grange as well as a Citation from the State of Connecticut by Linda Orange with Master Jeff Watson and other dignitaries present.

A lovely sign done by Polly’s granddaughter welcomed all to the affair as well as the original hall’s bronze dedication plaque from 1888.

Colchester Grange is active in community service and its members volunteer hundreds of hours to help their town and those in great need.  We are very proud of our Grange and our happy and persistent to contribute in so many ways to numerous to mention.
